1. Aerial Passenger Ropeway System
IN NEWS:
Cabinet approves transfer of land of ITBP to Government of Uttrakhand for development of Aerial Passenger Ropeway System.
KEY POIINTS:
- Cabinet approved transfer of 1500 square metres of land belonging to Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) at Mussoorie to the State Government of Uttarakhand for their infrastructure project, namely, ‘Aerial Passenger Ropeway System’ between Dehradun and Mussoorie.
- The proposed Ropeway is a mono-cable ropeway of 5580 meters length under Public Private Partnership (PPP).
- IT is between Purkul Gaon, Dehradun (Lower Terminal Station) and Library, Mussoorie (Upper Terminal Station) being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.285 crore.
- Carrying capacity of 1000 persons per hour per direction. This will considerably reduce the traffic flow on road route from Dehradun to Mussoorie.
- In addition, this will generate direct employment of 350 and indirect employment of more than 1500 people.
- Once completed, the ropeway will be a huge attraction for tourists which in turn will provide a boost to the tourism industry in the State and create additional employment opportunities in tourism sector.

2. International Nurses Day.

Every year, the International Nurses Day is celebrated on May 12.
This year, in 2021, the International Nurses Day is celebrated under the following theme:
Theme: Nursing the World to Health.
KEY POINTS:
- The birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale is celebrated as the International Nurses Day.
- The day is celebrated to mark the contributions made by the nurses to the society.
- The International Nurses Day has been celebrated by the International Council of Nurses since 1965. Every year, on International Nurses Day, the International Council of Nurses distributes educational and public information materials to be used by nurses everywhere.
Florence Nightingale
- She was an English social reformer and also was the founder of modern nursing.
- She trained and managed nurses during the Crimean War.
- She took care of wounded soldiers at Constantinople. Also, reputation for nurses in the Victorian culture began to increase because of her.
- She was called as “The Lady with the Lamp”.
- This is the because she used to carry a lamp while making rounds of wounded soldiers at night.
- She was the first person to lay foundation of professional nursing.
- She established Nursing school at St Thomas hospital in London. It was the first nursing school in the world. It is now a part of the King’s college of London.
- The Florence Nightingale Medal is the highest international distinction a nurse can achieve. It is awarded by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

3. Production-Linked Incentive Scheme for The Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage

- The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of Department of Heavy Industry for implementation of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme ‘National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage’.
Key takeaways
- Aim: To achieve a manufacturing capacity of 50 GigaWatt Hour of ACC and five Giga Watt Hour of Niche ACC with an outlay of 18,100 crore.
- ACCs are the new generation of advanced storage technologies that can store electric energy either as electrochemical or as chemical energy and convert it back to electric energy as and when required.
- It will also give a big push to electric mobility, benefiting three-wheelers, four-wheelers and heavy vehicles.
- India is currently importing Battery Storage Equipment
- The scheme will be helpful in making the country self-reliant (Atmanirbhar).

4. MoU between Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and Qatar Financial Centre Authority (QFCA)

The Union Cabinet has approved signing of MoU between Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and Qatar Financial Centre Authority (QFCA).
Key takeaways
- The MoU would enhance cooperation between the Institutes to work together to strengthen the Accounting profession and entrepreneurship base in Qatar.
- ICAI has an active Chapter in Doha, Qatar which was established in the year 1981 and is the oldest among the 36 overseas Chapters of the ICAI.
- Qatar (Doha) Chapter is amongst the most vibrant Chapters of ICAI.

5. OPERATION SAMUDRA SETU II
IN NEWS:
OPERATION SAMUDRA SETU II – INS TARKASH BRINGS MEDICAL OXYGEN CONSIGNMENT FROM QATAR.
KEY POINTS:
- As part of ongoing COVID relief Operation ‘Samudra Setu II’ launched by Indian Navy, INS Tarkash, with two Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) filled (20 MT each) cryogenic containers and 230 Oxygen cylinders embarked.
- The Oxygen containers were facilitated by the French Mission as part of “Oxygen Solidarity Bridge” and Oxygen cylinders were gifted by Indian diaspora in Qatar.
- The consignment was handed over to Civil Administration, Maharashtra.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Operation Samudra Setu-II:
- Seven Indian Naval ships viz. Kolkata, Kochi, Talwar, Tabar, Trikand, Jalashwa and Airavat have been deployed for shipment of liquid medical oxygen-filled cryogenic containers and associated medical equipment from various countries.
- Two ships, the INS Kolkata and INS Talwar, have entered the Port of Manama, Bahrain, to carry back 40 tonnes of liquid oxygen to Mumbai.
- The INS Jalashwa is enroute to Bangkok while the INS Airavat is on its way to Singapore on similar missions
Operation Samudra Setu:
- It was launched along with Vande Bharat Mission (VBM).
- VBM is the biggest civilian evacuation exercise to bring back Indian citizens stranded abroad amidst the coronavirus-induced travel restrictions.
- It has surpassed the large-scale airlift of 1,77,000 people in 1990 at the onset of the Gulf War.
- Indian Naval Ships Jalashwa and Airavat, Shardul and Magar participated in this operation.
